Whats this thing???
Its between the intake manifold and the carb on my 4bbl 390. It looks like some type of cooler, three hoses run to it from the manifold to the heater hoses and its about an inch tall. Is it to prevent vapor lock? Will the car run alright if i just bypass it. I'd like to run a less restrictive air cleaner assembly and dropping the carb down an inch will def help.

Hey Steve, Thats used to pass hot engine coolant through and speed up the warm up process. It's supposed to help atomize the fuel droplets as they enter the intake manifold. You can dissconect the hoses, or remove it all together and the worse thing that will happen is it may take just a bit longer to warm up and idle on its own. Clint
