Unhappy `84 Tbird - Help

Hi I just recently purchased a `84 5.0 tbird, and it runs good most of the time, but will occasionally die while I’m stopped at a light. Once it dies I can turn it all the way off and restart it and it will run fine for the rest of the day. However it doesn’t always do it, and it seems more likely to do it on a hot day then a cold, but I don’t think it’s an overheating issue as once it dies (and I restart it) I can drive it all over without a spec of trouble. I’ve taken it to a mechanic and replaced the TFI module, but to no avail. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

This same thing happened on my 85, 83, and 84 Tbirds. Generally, the TFI module would be a likely cause, however, it was not the case any of the times. May want to have a look at your fuel pump instead. Likely it could be the problem.

Other than that- make sure your timing is set correctly and that your exauhst is not restricted somewhere along the way.

take it easy,

-BR
