'86 5.0 Superchip.
I've got an '86 5.0 with Cold air, high flow filter, shorty header, and H-pipe (no cats). I've just got glass packs on now. What is the cat-back or should I go with the flowmaster dual chambers?
Also everything I see for a superchip is for '88 up, with the mustangs they go back to '86. Can I use the mustang chip or am I out of luck? Also I've heard that I shouldn't have a throttle body FI on that yr but I do. Did the T-bird come with a throttle body that yr or do I have a different engine in-er? Thanx. |

As far as the chip goes, I think your car would have a different computer than the Mustang, but you could check around online and email some of the companies to see if they'll work or if they'll make one or not. I'm not sure about the '86 having throttle body, but I THINK they still had the CFI. I know in '85 they did. I believe they started using fuel injection (with throttle body) on the '87 5.0 T-Bird. Does yours have a round air cleaner on the top (like the older cars do over the carb), or does it have the plenum style intake with the air cleaner next to the fender?

Thanks for the reply, I've got the airbox next too/inside the fender.
Also about 10 min. after my last post I found a page that listed good cat-back exhaust systems. They had Flowmaster as one so I take this to mean that they ARE cat-back exhaust. Is that correct? |
