3.8 Aerobird question
Im looking at a 3.8L 80's thunderbird im not sure of the year (83-88) for parts, for antother project ,and i have some questions.
Dose the transmission have the same bolt pattern as a smallbock V8? Its an automatic with overdirve, dose that mean is an AOD or could it be somthing else. I belive it has an 8.8 rearend do all thunderbirds of this type have posi's and what is the possible gearing? Thanks ~Josh |

Hello
Yes the bolt pattern is the same as small V-8's. The trany should be an AOD if it is an overdrive. The rear axle is a 7.5 not A 8.8. I have the codes to tell you the axle ratio and if it is open or locked. I use the door code under AX. If you find an 8.8 from a Mustang it will fit, But must reuse the 8.8 upper controll arms. so don't cut them! :p
