Post 2.3L Performance Rebuild VS. Swapping A V-8 289

I have a 1984 thunderbird and i'm debating on trying to find performance parts for the 2.3 if there are any or pulling out the 2.3 and dropping in a 289. Would it be difficult to drop in the 289? It's a 5 speed and i heard v-8 t-5's would line up perfectly... any info would be appreciated! Thanx

You can still find plenty of performance parts for the 2.3L-and one mod I would consider is going with a larger Garrett Airesearch turbo.

I am modding my 84 turbocoupe.I did the LA-3 computer swap-Big VAM-boost control(16psi)-innercooler-88 scooped hood(looks cool)-E-6 manifold-eliminated the egr-T-3-3" exhaust with high flow cat.
The T-3 turbos that came on the 83-84 are good upto 350-400hp.I would find a water cooled turbo to help cool the oil that runs thru the turbo.I am also doing a big brake swap.I am installing an 8.8 with 3.73 gears with discs-stainless braided brake lines-11" front drilled rotors-LSC calipers-SVO master cylinder-adjustable prop valve etc.
