Cool New Tcoupe owner !!!

Hi i just bought an 88 tc its in great shape but when i strart it the rpm's go up to about 2-3 thou, i tried to lower the idle but when i do it starts to sputer then makes a popping sound from the passenger side.
i think that maybe its the timing thats off or could it be that it just needs a good tuneup please help i love the car and i want to get it running good, it also has a major exhaust leak.

Thanks in advance.

These cars need a lot of attention to be kept running smoothly, but once they're running well you can't help but fall in love. :)

If you have any doubts that the plugs and wires aren't in good shape that's a good place to start. It's crucial that you use motorcraft parts on these cars. The sparkplugs you'll need are autolite 764's if I remember correctly. It's also a good idea to check the cap and rotor for corrosion. They're not very expensive to replace with quality parts.

If the idle problems are still there after you've done that - this would be the next step:
