AOD Column Shift Question
Have the 88 V6, if you haven't read any of my earlier posts. The column shift has, going from right to left, OverDrive (4th), then Drive (3rd), then First (1st). Is there anyway to change the last selection from First to Second. I don't think I will every use First for anything. I would use Second for some canyon work.

If I'm not mistaken, the (1) is actually (l) as in Low, if it's the same as my 88 V8 AOD. I believe Ford engineered it that way to reduce the "breakaway torque" available in "low" gear for easier starting on slippery or icy roads. Try it yourself... put it in Low, hold the gas down just enough to get you moving so you feel it in the "seat of your pants", then gently slip the lever into Drive. You should feel an extra "kick" as it shifts into actual 1st, and accelerates faster. |
