Do the other dash lights work? If they do not ,check for blown fuses. If they do ,there is a relay that switches the power to turn on the display light from the ignition to the dash light dimmer. It should be mounted just to the right of the steering column. The relay is turned on by the park lights.

Question dash lites

Hey, tanxs for the reply. The rest of the lights are working (dome,A/c etc)the funny thing is that the door chime sounds like a sick chicken. More of a wheeze really. the fuses are good and all connections seem tight. the schmatics i have are crap. they don't show where the relays are.there is a big blue box(relay?) to the left of the steering colum.it seems the chime is coming from here. was wondering if this is part of the relay system ?

The relays are between the steering column and the radio ,visible if the trim under the column is removed. The wire colors include Blue w red tracer(dash light fuse) a Brown (tail light fuse) a Black (ground) . I do not remember what the other colors are off the top of my head but if you supply an e-mail address I could send you a copy of the diagrams.
