Does anyone have any words of wisdom on windshield removal from a '55-'57? I know that the trim pieces are very expensive to replace, so I'd like be careful and hopefully, to re-use mine. I have read the removal process in the manual and it sounds very easy.. removal trim and pop out window. Is that all there is to it? Thanks for any advice. Also, any advice on replating/refinishing trim would also be appreciated.

Windshield removal has usually been a tedious "non-event". After following the procedure in the manual and unseating the rubber seal with a couple putty knives; I can't help but wonder why we don't simply cut the rubber out of the opening. It has to be quicker and you are probably going to replace it with a new piece anyway. Another benefit is that you wouldn't be concerned about windshield breakage from excessive tweaking with the putty knives.

Most of the windshield tinsel is stainless steel. The exception is the vertical ends, both inside and out. Memory says the bottom joint cover inside is also plated. The only thing I can think of as a caution when plating the vertical end pieces is that they should be stress relieved when at the platers. Failure to bake these parts can result in tiny stress cracks appearing. Your plater should be able to advise you.

I am trying to remove the outside trim molding and can't find any instructions. So I am looking through old issues and found yours. Can you provide some instructions?
