Both the passenger door and rear quarter power windows have stopped functioning. I can hear the motors when the switches are activated, but the passenger door window will not move (much) without manual assistance, and the right rear quarter window simply refuses to budge. I suspect the window runs may need cleaning as perhaps there is some binding involved. But, both windows on the right, at the same time. Aargh!, Until this, all windows activated smoothly, raising and lowering with the speed and agility that only a Thunderbird can show. Is there anything I should be looking for regarding the repair/cleaning of the mechanisms, I.E. any 10 cent plastic gears I should be aware of.

If you hear the motors running then I would bet your gears have come apart. The metal gear that runs the regulator up and down is attatched (or was) to the nylon gear and they break and cause what you describe

Windows

You probably have striped drive gears. You will have to remove the lifts and replace the gears. There have been many improvements in these gears over the years, the last ones I put in seem to be holding up very well.
Many vendors have these gears.
Good luck,
Joe

All fixed

Tore into the mystery of the windows, and have the scrapes to prove it. It was also a lot of fun to have to also relaod the spring that holds the door window in line. In both cases (the right door and right quarter windows) the cause was a rubber gear, sorta of like a small hockey puck, that had literally fallen apart, sheared right through the middle, The replacements are indeed much better engineered and the windows once again are up to standard T-Bird quality and performance.
Thanks for the info.
