I'm working on fixin up my gf's 94, and it needs a new tranny. I was wondering if there were any recalls on the 94 v8, and if there were any known problems with autos, and if you guys recommend a rebuild or new transmission.

also, will any other trannys out of other cars be an easy swap to this one, possibly something stronger? and how hard is it to do a swap to a 5 spd?

I know the SC tranny switch is quite a job, and IMO it's not worth the hassle to swap it over to a 5 speed, but it's obviously up to you. Good luck if it's what you choose to do! I'm not too sure if any other trannies would fit, and a rebuild is fine from a reputable shop. It would save you a few bucks for sure, but if you don't mind throwing the cash for a new tranny, than that's the way to go! Click HERE to go to "Edmund's"....you can enter your info, and check the TSB's there.
Best Regards,

On my 94, I hit about 85k and my tranny went out. Was not alot of fun changing it out. The swap over to the 5 speed is going to be a serious headache. SuperCoupe has a good point about the rebuilds, however, here in California, the Ford dealerships are now selling rebuilds as well. A rebuild from the dealership will run you about 50% of the cost of a new one, plus carries a 1 year warranty. If, it were up to me, I would get the rebuild and with the money I saved from the tranny, invest it in some other engine, exhaust, or other performance mods. Good luck to you either way....
