Top speed of a Turbo Coupe?

That 180 is a steaming pile. The fastest ever tested was an 88 at 143 mph, which is still crankin' for a heavy car with a 4 cylinder/.

Those are some damn good speeds for anything, much less a 4 banger!

I'll have to think twice before picking on one on the street!

Badmude, since it would only start a huge whine fest of disbelievers at the Vette forum, I usally don't post much about the performance of the 2.3T's and how I have beaten Vettes with it. With simple mods, they are surprisingly powerful. Last time at New England Dragway I beat a 93 LT1 six speed car pretty good with my TC. The 88 that Motor Trend tested at 143 had the stock 190 hp engine. Mine has dynoed at 205 at the rear wheels, which is about 240hp at the crank. I really don't like going fast, just quick so I have never tried to top it out.

Hey Fastguy,

You are so right....alot of the guys are sorta close-minded about the power of other cars. I can say, I have been beat by some cars in my Vette that I wouldn't want to admit too..

Problem is that our TC's have alot more top end than bottom end. 5spd has a 3:55 rear... From a light we can be beat. On the Highway, it's fun when a 5.0 Stang thinks it's fast (hehe).

The 83-86 cars have 3.45's in a 7.5" drum axle regardless of tranny. The 87-88's have 3.55's for 5-spds and 3.73's for autos in an 8.8" disc setup. I have an 87 3.73 disc rear in my car now, its a little quicker but didn't ruin it on the highway. I'm at 2900 rpm's at 65 mph but it definitely lowered my top speed.

the fastest i had my 88 was 4600 rpms in 5th gear chasing after a friend who was racing a 2000 trans-am 6spd in his 99 cobra..i had the car completely stock at that time...needless to say the TA lost..

I thought 5 speeds had 3.27 and autos had 3.73's?? I have an auto rear for sale if any of y'all are interested. I don't want to put it in my 5 speed because 1. gas mileage and 2. it's daily driver and I really don't need any more incentive to drag race the car!!

87-88 TC 5spd has 3.55 and autos have 3.73 rear ends.

How much for the 3.73 you have (only need the R&P Gears)...
