Awhile back, I bought a hump (center tunnel) section for my '57 bird as mine had been modified by a prior owner. When I got the hump in, I pulled out a 3 speed manual shifter assembly that i had purchased some time ago off ebay, and I noticed that the shifter doesn't make a perfect match with the floor. The screw holes are in the right place, but the contour of the base of the shifter doesn't match the floor. Specifically, the corner of the shifter housing closest to the driver is off the floor about 1/2". Does anyone have any ideas? Are 55, 56 and 57 t-bird floors different in this area? Did Ford make a 3 speed floor shifter of the same vintage that does not fit a t-bird? My shifer might not be correct for a t-bird in such case. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
