Looked thru the whole flair bird forum, and, either no one has encountered this or I missed it!
In my 64 landau, when I open the rear vent. It opens and closes at a regular interval. It slows down, (stops when rpms are up) and sometimes stops when I have driven for a while.
Has anyone ever encountered this or have any thoughts?
Thanks for any help that anyone can give me!

I agree with Joe, Sounds like a vacuum leak. The vacuum holds the vents open loose vacuum and they close. I think theres two vacuum motors one on each side. You can check them with a hand vacuum pump.

My computer was "down" for a couple of days. Thanks for your thoughts on this, but, How can I get to the rear vent ? I haven't noticed instructions in either my '64 or '65 shop manuals. Maybe too much on my mind! (I HAVE to drive it at EVERY opportunity!)
Well, Thanks for any help that you can give, and I hope that all of you are having as much fun as I am in each minor/major victory !!!

rear vent flapping

The rear vents and motors are accessed by removing the rear seat and the rear package tray. After removing a series of screws behind the rear seat backs, just PULL forward on the package tray.

Thanks for all input! Found out about "gutting" the rear seat area to get to it(before checking back w/ you) and I find that Joe's diagnosis seems correct!
Found "good used " vacuum motors at pat wilson's for $30. Also, I found that the rear cowl drains (that I'd checked, and thought were good) were actually broken at the bottom! Anyone w/ trunk leaks definitely should check them carefully! I also found that underneath the trunk seal,at the rear, there were rusted out areas that had definitely been leaking. This is a car that was from Fla. and has never seen snow, so, I'm suggesting that everyone should check under the weatherstrip especially at the rear of the trunk to make sure that it isn't rusting.
Once again, thanks for all of your help !
