When I got my '55 " T" Bird, it had Motorcraft #BSF82C spark plugs. I got a '55 magazine add and it says that the "new Thunderbird is equipped with Champion "Turbo Action" plugs, but does not give a number. I am wondering what the original plug was, and if that is not available, is the Motorcraft mentioned above a good substitute?

Champion plugs were original equipment and they are specified as replacement items in the '57 shop manual. I think you may rest assured that any spark plug made today that is recommended for our engines would be far superior to anything made a half century ago.

Ive done a little research and found that a Champion plug #RF14YC is a little hotter than the Motorcraft BSF82C that were in my car when I got it. I have installed them, but havent driven the car yet (waiting for it to stop raining in Michigan). I dont know if this is the number plug that originally came in the car but I do know that Champions were.

The plug that is specified in the '57 shop manual is a Champion 870. With the way spark plug identification numbers have changed over the years, I don't know how we could ever come up with an identical configuration these days. The plug you have chosen is probably a reasonable starting point. After you start using the car, you can adjust to a hotter or colder plug to suit your type of driving. It doesn't seem likely you'd go to a colder plug when you consider how most 50 year old cars are used.
