Well, I've said it before, and I'll tell you again, beautiful bird, Paul. I hope mine turns out half as nice. But (as usual) a question, how many points does that 'cage have?

thanks for the praise guys! thats what 11 years of boredom will do for ya! Just think, she used to be my wifes WORK CAR! hehehehehe. being disabled i've got alot of time to sit and stare it her redoing things in my head.

anyway thats a custom bent 2 inch - 6 point cage. We mocked it up with PVC pipe and took it to one of my suppliers here in town (Lefthander Chassis - national short track race car builders) and had them cut, bend and weld the main hoop, and we notched and angled the front and rear down bars.

the front bars pass through the floor just before the floor turns up to meet the firewall, and the rears pass through the package shelf out into the trunk floor. they are welded in front to the top of the frame rails, and the rears are welded to the trunk floor with a custom tie bar between the fuel tank and the trunk floor the spans the entire trunk and attaches to the rear inside of the frame rails.

oh and just a side not, not to toot my own horn or anything, but we're currently changing the ENTIRE fuel system to accomodate a TWIN 750 cfm Holley commander EFI system!

i'll let ya know how it goes but she wont be up and running until spring '04.

later guys,
paul

ps. tbird351: unfortunatly in that picture you cant see it but there is an inlaid (ghost) purple checkered flag across the drivers front corner and the passenger rear corner. it done in purple pearl so it "waves" as it passes through different light at night!!

Holy Crap!!

Nice work, man! It's awesome to see the amount of effort you've put into it. The rear suspension's a work of art.
More pics at your convienience PLEASE!

YEEEEES!
I sure wouldn't mind having a fuelie 460 in my Cougar... that wouldn't be too shabby at all.
I'd be interested in hearing how it went together and what challenges you ran into along the way.

well, ok!

Give me a couple of weeks to get it wired enough so it doesnt look like the spaghetti it currently is, and i'll take a bunch of "as i go" pics. i won't post them here so as not to waste the storage room, but i will send them to whomever is interested. By the way, not that it matters, but if i hadn't gotten extremely lucky assembling the needed pieces for this conversion, i would have spent in upwards of $2800 to do it with all new stuff!

i got really lucky and found a guy on ebay, 2 days before my secondary injector driver was to ship from summit (backorder)
that had a new one he never used and sold it to me for HALF PRICE!

anyway. the system so far has been very easy to install, minus the intentional detail work i added to the project. I'll keep updating as time wears on.

paul
