Oh-Kay!
Now struggling with the above item.

Can anybody tell me the colour code for the wiring in the panel?? i.e. which bulb has what colored wires?

All the bulb-holders were already pulled out of the Control Panel when I bought the car (unknown to me at the time) so apart from the Door Ajar light which is working I have no idea where they go.

I have the shop manual and some of the wires do have numbers allocated to them - but I can't find out where to decypher said numbers, the book is not much help.

Also, how exactly does the Seatbelt warning light system work?

Keeping my fingers crossed that one of you out there knows about this stuff!!

On my 66 the bulb holders are color coded to match the control panel.

Great! I'll have a look at that next time I'm in the workshop!

I also have a 'live' terminal there too, I guess it's for the (missing?) switch for the Emergency Flasher??

Look close, it's just a dab of paint on the bulb holder and panel (different colors)

I just got back in from the workshop, the colors are there alright, only trouble is: I've already run into trouble!

The light with the red paint on the holder is the Door Ajar light (the only one that works properly!).
BUT the fitting on the Control Panel with red paint is the Emergency Flasher one!! arghhhh!
The other colours are pale blue, yellow and green.
The Door Ajar fitting on the Control Panel has green paint and Seat Belt fitting has yellow paint, Low Fuel is the blue.

What gives? A practical joker with a paint-pot at the factory????

Two of the bulb holders have two-wire plugs so conceivably they COULD have been swapped - but the Door Ajar light wiring is permanent wired to the loom.

Any suggestions fellow T-birders??

over head panel

On my 66 Landau with the over head panel the colors match up.
In regards to the seat belt warning light it comes on as soon as you turn on the ignition and has a switch under the dash (drivers side) that breaks the circuit after a few seconds.
You won't find anything on this in the 66 shop manual. If that switch quits working you will have a hard time finding a replacement.

Thanks again Joe, I am mystified as to why the colours don't match up on my car - maybe the metal light fitting on the front of the Safety Control Panel is from another car and had the paint dabs in different locations?? (personally doubt it but who knows?)

As far as the seat-belt switch thing, I need to know the color-code for the seat-belt light wiring in the Control Panel as I have a light there that stays on all the time and others that don't seem to work at all!!

To the light -- green
To the switch -- violet
Good question as to what might have been alterd over the years.
I bought my Bird new so know it's history

Joe, I get you e-mails and tried e-mailing via the address on your e-mails but keep getting it returned, I'm not sure what goes on !!

Joe, it seems like this is the only way to reply to your e-mails - after I tried last time I got this message:
" Your message was not delivered because the destination computer was not reachable within the allowed queue period. The amount of time a message is queued before it is returned depends on local configuration parameters".
This was after I attempted to send a message by hitting the 'reply' to your e-mail.

Antbody out there know what this is about?

On a happier note I received my Neutral Safety Switch yesterday, a comparison with the old one showed a piece missing off the 'sliding' part of the mechanism and the long coil spring a.w.o.l., hence the reason it would stick in the Park position.

Well scumdog, I can't figure it out either. Iv'e never had this happen before.
Good to hear you solved the swich problem.
I'm going to ckeck with my comp. guy on the email problem.
Joe

Oh, by the way, when fitting a new reproduction Neutral Safety Switch it pays to hook up the four-pin plug to it first and do it carefully, holding the switch pins with a pair of needle-nosed pliers as you push on the plug.

I didn't do this and bolted the switch to the column before trying to push on the plug - result was I pushed one of the 'pins' into the switch and jammed the slide, luckily no damage but I feel the manufacturers could (a) fix the pins to the switch in a better manner or (b) at least add a note with the switch warning of this potential problem.

BTW Now have to repair/replace the detent on the column, the new switch with the stronger spring causes the shifter to drop from Neutral to Drive too easily and it won't hold the shifter in place in Reverse for the back-up lights to stay on unless you hold the shifter up against the safety switch springs tension.

Fix one problem - find another!!!

PS Thanks for posting a reply Joe.

Attention all who have a shift lever that drops out of PARK: The problem is usually a worn shift lever - not a worn detent plate. Before you start a job as big as detent replacement, look at the shift lever for wear.

The early 66 seat belt light came on when you turned on the key, Then they went off when you pulled out the belt the switch is in the drivers side belt on that type.

Flasher Switch

Thanks to a very kind Forum member (Thanks Harley!) I now have a functional switch for my Emergency Flasher!!!!

Only now I have hooked it up I find that only the drivers side park-light flashes (and the small bulb on the Control Panel).

Can anybody tell me why the rear lights and the front right one do not work??

And after the advice from Harley I'll revisit my shifter, I had the worn section built-up but it still seems to slip in some positions and only seems to go into Park position by a small amount. (but holds in that position)

All help and any tips welcomed.

Thanks again guys, you're wizards at figuring out how to fix my problems! :ghug

I'd be lost without this forum, that's for sure, there's NOBODY here that has any T-bird experience.

PS Joe, last e-mail bounced back -again! :sad

There are two relays in the trunk on a 66 Landau for the warning lights.
They might be your problem.

The thing is Joe, I've got three relays together in the trunk, which two are for the emergency flasher set-up?

To the right of the spare-wheel as you look in the trunk I have two relays, one behind the other and placed longitudinaly, beside the nearest of those two and to its right is another third relay.
Ive sort of checked this third relay and it seems to have an orange or brown wire coming from the terminal furtherest away from you that seems to send power to the stop-lights.

There is also a live white-with-red (or brown?) tracer going to the centre terminal, when the emergency flasher is switched on this wire then causes my test-light to blink, if I hook-up a wire from this wire to the orange one it makes both sets of stop-lights and the front left park light blink quite fast.

Any help here will be appreciated!!

Got an e-mail picture of these relays from Harley and they look NOTHING like mine plus I have THREE relays!
Will have another look.

And yep, getting your e-mails Joe.
