Master Cyl Booster Removeal

Very Hard To Access Nuts UNDER THE DASH That Hold The Booster Bracket To Firewall.are There Any Easy Short Cuts To Remove This.1962.

I use a universal (flexible) socket and 8" extension and ratchet.l The nuts are 9/16".

Just about have to be a contortionist. I found if you lie on your back with the seat all the way back it helps, but ideally remove the drivers seat, only 4 bolts and a bit easier then.

NOTE:: also put some clear protective glasses on as there is lots of dust that will stick in your eyes...very annoying. Some could be dangerous too I guess!

You can remove the booster from the engine compartment. Four nuts hold it to the bracket. First remove the master cylinder, then the four nuts (must be a contortionist here as well), pull the booster way from the bracket, remove the cotter pin from the pin that holds the linkage, push the pin out of the booster linkage (it will only come out part way) and remove the booster. This can be done with the hood on, much easier with the hood off the car!

I Have 2 Solutions. Is One A Better Idea Than The Other And Why.

Hi Gary,

well, if you take out the 4 nuts from under the dash (and cotter pin) then the entire booster and M/C will come out as one unit. I'd hazard a guess the M/C could be leaking by now, as well as the booster so I would be getting them both out and getting ready to recondition or replace them both.

Leaving the bracket attached will make life easier if you have to adjust the push rod from the booster to the M/C after replacing one or both components.

Either way, it's a dog of a job.
