Just wanted to say hi. I bought an '86 TC about a month ago for $200, blown head gasket and who knows what else. Anyway, just how fast is this car (automatic)? unfortunately, the car is 3 hours away at home (I'm a college student), but hopefully it will be running in the next couple of months. Any go-fast suggestions would be suggested (college budget, though). Thanks!

Start with some boost control. Get a fish tank valve from Walmart, about 75 cents. You can use this to raise the boost to about 15psi safely without detonation running super. If you are careful, you can disconnect the knock sensor which retards timing but it is easy to blow another head gasket if you detonate. The next thing is a good air filter, preferably a K&N cone, part number RE-0390, which replaces that whole airbox assembly. After that, grab an intercooler and get a better exhaust and you will be rockin'.

What exactly do you mean by a "better exhaust"? The moron who got it stuck and blew the head gasket ripped the back half of the exhaust system off when he pulled it out, so I'll have to replace it anyway.

Depending on your local laws, you could run a 3" downpipe from Sacramento Mustang or ETS and then either a custom 3" system using 1/2 of a Mac Mustang kit or get a stock 88 5 spd dual exhaust.

Depends on what you consider "trouble". Its a lot of work and you need a donor car for all of the parts. Trans, crossmember, cltch cable, bellhousing, pedals, clutch quadrant, shifter console, hole in the floor, etc..
