I'm the owner of a 96 T-bird with 160K miles and a blown head gasket (pass. side). I was wondering if any of you have ever did a head gasket repair and if it is worth doing it yourself. I tried using the "Bars Leak Head Gasket Repair" product w/o any luck. So any and all advice/info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, MiMitch

P.S.: Did FoMoCo ever have a recall about this problem?

I did both yesterday(4.6L V8). I would have been worth it but I still found water in the oil. I found out that there was a flaw and the freeze plugs on the front of the block were rusting through and pouring water into the oil pan via the timing cover. Make sure this isn't the problem first. If not you will need an 8mm U-joint socket for the valve covers which will be the biggest pain. You would be well suited to buy the whole head gasket set (around $160-$200) which includes all of the gaskets you will need to replace on the journey to taking off thet head or heads. Also, If you have a digital camera, I suggest you take pictures of the whole breakdown including: bolt patterns, electrical connections, and hose placements. I really wish I would have done it. It is alot of work, and since it is fresh on my mind you can email me at [email protected] with any questions.
