Great Screw Up, Try It

I am freshining up the interior on my 61, my aluminum trim was beyond cleaning and this being a driver, not a show car I was not going to spring for new trim. I got rust-oleum aluminun high performance enamel to spray the trim, tried Alumi Blast but it was too dark. My first 2 pieces I cleaned with a fine scotch pad and washed with prepsol. The color was ok but too shiney and they looked painted, On my third I forgot to wash with prepsol and it fish eyed, I grabbed a rag and wiped off the paint and I could not believe my eyes the finish looked like fresh aluminum. I tried it on another piece and got the same results. If your trim looks tired take advantage of my screw up you will be impressed with the results

I'm interested. So you just painted and then immediately wiped it off? Were your panels originally tinted and did you then tint them again or just leave them as-is? I'm getting ready to do mine and will tint them beige. I planned to just scotch-brite them and then tint. Just wondering if your method would be helpful in what I'm doing. Did it do something to clean up or smooth out scratches?

Also, does anyone know of an outfit that sells replica tint colors for the aluminum and vinyl? I planned to just go have some mixed, but if there's someone that sells original colors I think that would be cool.
