I have been told that 50 years ago when the baby birds were built one could get 100 octane gas at the pump (ethyl) with lead, and that the 292- 312 engines need this high octane. Now it seems that 93 is the highest octane available without lead. My question is, should we add the octane booster available as well as a lead substitute, or is the 93 octane O.K. to use without additives?

Do you have hardened valve seats? With hardened valve seats you can use the 93 octane without doing any damage. If you drive distances you should put the lead additive in the tank if you don't have the hardened valve seats
