I have a '56 Bird and have been correcting problems that someone did to make the car look good and driveable. I have the passenger door apart and purchased the kit for the door hinges. I didn't realize they would need to be machined to fit the new parts. Who does this work. I don't want to take it just to any machine shop? Does anyone make new hinges?

Thanks for any help.

Terry,

A check of the parts suppliers' catalogues that I have state that "some machining may be required" to install the new pins. With that requirement I would assume that any competent machine shop should be able to do the job for you with no problems. In other words, it must be a simple job to do.

That said, Hill's Thunderbird Center (see my posting in the thread "56 Upper Control Arm" for phone number) lists an exchange for rebuilt hinges at $39 in their 2011 catalogue. Good Luck!

gbhrps,

Thank you for your reply, I will take them by a machine shop that I have used before. They made me the triangular nut plates for inside of the door but it was $90.00 each. I thought that was very high. It dosen't hurt to ask though.

Terry,

All they should need to do is match up the bit size and drill the proper depth in the hinge pieces, so the price shouldn't require a lot of labour time. Fingers crossed!
