Compression Testing

Could anyone tell me if it is possible to get a good compression test on a cold engine. Engine is in car still but is disabled so I won't be able to warm it up. I have to fix head gaskets but wonder if I should get compression tested to make sure I don't need to go farther. Any suggestions welcome.

You can get a ball park figure on a cold engine--any extreme problems will show up.
