Bumper bolts

another absurd techie question:

the bolts that hold the bumper halves together: 7/16" or 3/8" ?

I'd have thought 3/8", but my bolts are definitely 7/16"-20 x 1. Since there has been previous work done, they could have been replaced at one time.

Looks like 3/8" will fit the holes.

Ford Parts Book says 7/16-20. This is for both front and rear bumpers.

Thank you for the compliment. You have to remember something when dealing with these cars; almost everything is subject for debate. On the subject for discussion on this thread, I offer the following example: The front bumper wings are bolted to the main bumper bar with four bolts. The two bolts closest to the park light body are mounted with the head on the bottom for obvious clearance reasons. I always assumed the other two bolts were installed with the heads up. Well wouldn't you guess a couple years ago this guy walks up and says one of the end bolts is mounted with the head towards the bottom. I don't know, who can prove it? There seems to be no logical reason for them to be one way or the other. You can't use the Ford Parts Illustration Manual. That has been proved incorrect in too many instances; so it has limited credibility. Aren't you glad you're not going into serious "points judging"?

Amen to that!

I may even go with stainless steel bolts in lieu of regular plated. I intend to keep it a long time.
