Brake Light Switch

Is there a brake light switch on the 56 birds. If so where is it. Also my dash courtesy light suddenly doesn't work. Are the brake light and courtesy light connected.

Does anyone know the official answer to my chassis question about the steel plating.

First - Your stop light switch (Part No 13480) should be the same as my 57 and is located on the frame rail by the base of your steering column and screws into the brake line junction block that distributes the fluid from the master cylinder to the front and back axles. There are two terminals on the switch connected to two green wires looping through them from and back into the harness. Your map light is fed by a Blue/Black wire so it is unlikely that they are related - unless the 56 is diffrent than the 57. Do you have the Electrical Installation Manual? If not, it is available for under $20 from most T-bird suppliers.

Second - Communicated with Tom D (Nomadbird) today. He apologizes for not answering your question regarding the 56 frame plating because he has been pre-occupied with some personal distractions. He asked me to forward the article in the May/June Early Bird mag that adresses your question. Unfortunately I have not yet received my copy yet (new CTCI member last month) and it must take some time to get on the list.

Does anyone out there in CTCI land have a way of posting the article that Tom D refers to on Page 42 0f the May/June issue for Rich?

RE: Brake Switch. If you didn't find the switch (round, 2 leads coming off of it), then there's probably a plug in it's place. It's in a brass block that takes input from the master and diverts it front and rear. If you're not showing the car, I'd install CASCO's electric/mechanical switch. It's much more reliable, takes 10 minutes, and won't require bleeding your brakes.

RE: Dash light. It's completely separate. The dash light has two possible inputs, one from the door switches, and one from a constant power supply to the little switch on the map light itself. Both pig-tail into the positive terminal on the lamp, so when either is +12V, the lamp lights. There's also a bonding wire to the dash so it grounds. It is completely unrelated. I'd check the fuse on the backside of your headlight switch, and then check the bulb itself.

Any idea what the part # and where I can find the CASCO switch?
