Advice please!

An uninsured motorist hit my baby! (87)
I have 2 questions, hope someone can help.
First, will the repair (replace driver's side door) cost more than my car is worth? (KBB estimates value @$1,400)
I'm afraid the ins. co. will total it.
Second, my deductible is $500.00.(ouch) I do have uninsured motorist coverage, but what are my chances of getting the company to get the $$ from the guy who hit me? They're giving me the runaround.
Thanks for ANY advice; I won't hear from the company til Monday.
(The good news is that I walked away with only minor injuries; life is priceless, and I'm fond of mine)..... but I'm not letting them take my bird!!!

You might be better off just fixing it yourself.
I just bought 2 rust free doors(I Live in Michigan) for $100 from the junk yard.

If you can do the labor yourself that might be the way to go

Yes, I've found a few nearby (CA) by looking online. The body shop finally contacted me and tried to total the car. They told me a door would be $350.00.
Ha! I told them I'd bring them a door. They refused.
At least now it won't be totaled. And the insurance company is going to waive the deductible. Whew!
