I picked upa 94 LX 4.6L last friday. No rust, 50k miles, and the only thing wrong is the ebrake won't ratchet downward, it comes right back up with your foot. Dealer is going to fix @ no charge.

Anyway, I have a list of things I am going to do to it this year. Shift kit (no wonder the trannys go, this thing takes 1 or 2 seconds to complete a shift, that's no good!) 2500 stall covnerter, 3.73 w/Powertrax No-Slip locking diff, heads from a 99, and an ATI procharger.

My first question is, how do I find out if I have the 8.8 rear end, and whether or not it came with Trac Loc?

Thanks much

Vance

If it's a V8 it's an 8.8. The easiest way to check for Traklok is punch it hard on a right turn in the rain. If you find yourself going backwards, you probably have Traklok.

Just kidding, I would jack up both back wheels and spin one, if the other wheel spins in the same direction it has Traklok. If it spins in the opposite direction it doesn't.

Thanks, that should be easy. Does traklok work like aftermarket posis, in other words are the axles locked anytime you are going in a straight line, or do they only lock when slip is detected?

And how can I tell which gear ratio is in my differential?

THanks, Vance

I belive the only gear ratio offered on the 8.8 traction-lok rear end was the 3.27. Also on the rear differential cover the right side has an 8.8 stamped into it.
