I'm trying to resurrect a 56 bird from a 17 year sleep in the back of a
local garage.

After complete tuneup it runs good but the brakes gradually lock up in about
1/2 mile after 4-5 braking stops. Drums hot, Brakes release after opening
master cylinder nut.

Strongly suspect a bad (old) rubber brake hose is doing a "check valve" job on me.

I will replace the front rubber hose in the line this week.

While I wait on the part does anyone have any other ideas about my
problem?

The only other thing that might cause the same problem is that the master cylinder push rod is not adjusted properly. It should have at least 1/8 or 3/16 play in it. When the fluid gets hot, it expands, pushing the piston inside back. It there is no play, it could lock up the brakes.

But if the hoses are old, them change them. This goes for the flex hose in the back. I assume you know there are two hoses in the front.
