I just purchased a 55 Bird and changed out the fuel tank and sender unit. Unfortunately I am no longer getting a reading on the gas gauge even though the tank is full of fuel. The car has been converted to a 12V system so I had ordered a 12V sending unit. Can someone tell me what resistance level I should see on a full tank out of the sender? Thanks

You say that the car has been changed to 12V. What, if anything, was used to reduce the voltage to the gauges? If a reducer was used, then you don't need a 12V sending unit.

That's a good question. I didn't do the conversion so I'm not sure what was done. The gauges all look original.

With a Dc meter. Test power at the sending unit. Check that you have a good ground to the tank.

Thanks everyone. Got it figured out. Because my Bird had been converted to a 12V system I thought I needed a 12V sending unit. Replaced it with a 6V unit and all is good!
