Does anyone know how to tell between a 390 or a 352 not using the tag bolted onto the manifold? While working on my 66 Bird i found the # 32 52 on the block under the head in the front?

Ditto here,Apparently FoMoCo cast all or most of the blocks with the embossing:"352"where you said ,then punched them out to 390 & 428.I thought I'd been "had" when I hot-tanked my block and saw 352 instead of 390-the numbers you want are stamped in small letters on the back of the block.Cannedband................. :)

You can bolt the intake to the block and heads with no problem. Up through 1964, the oil filler was in the intake manifold for the
Thunderbirds. 1965 and later had oil filler in the valve covers. Exhaust manifold will bolt to the heads, but must also attach to exhaust pipes which change occasionally.

ok, since I am about to rebuild the TOP END and heads just because......

What does this thread mean ?

explain wiht out the cryptic info please.

I have read the shopmanual about 4 times, and nothing you are saying in this thread is making sense as compared to the 66 info ( I 'm SURE there is info left out as FO-MO-CO of course assumes that all the techs at the time know the ins and outs of stupid ideiocyncricies *sp of the cars of the day....

now 36 + years in the future... lol I can't find a d00d who knows jack **** about this sort of stuff.

ESPI... at a loss fer info thanx.

Dave: Someone asked about manifolds on FE engines and I responded. Is this the thread you are referring to? Do you have specific questions about rebuilding your "top end"? If you mean you are doing a valve job, be sure the exhaust valve seats are replaced. Originally, the cast iron head was machined to form the valve seats. they should be harder than cast iron. Also resurface the head where the exhaust manifolds will attach.
