    1956 New Convertible Top

I would like to fit a convertible top to my '56. Has anyone bought or fitted one of the new reproduction convertible tops? I would also consider an original one, to refurbish, but don't seem too easy to find.

    Carburettor issues

Finally fixed my carb. The light springs that sit under the float weren't there. Once they were put in, I think it made a bit of a difference, but still ran too rich. Finally discovered the power valves were the wrong ones. They had a too stronger spring, so couldn't be pulled shut. Runs really...

Water comes in at front top of door

Thanks very much for all that, Jim. I can see the validy with that secondary seal. They may have been there once, but not re-done in later years.

    Carburettor issues

The distributor has a single diaphragm vacuum unit, so must be '57 style also.

    '56 Rear spring setting

Yes, I think I will put it back. I did put brand new coils in the front. As far as the rear is concerned, I may have to put a spacer between the spring and axle on the right side to lower it. Also will try leaving the insulator rubber out on the left side, which will raise it a bit.

Water comes in at front top of door

When it rains, I have a bad leak at the top front corner of my doors on my '56. Maybe there is part of the rubber missing?? There is a rubber that goes down the chrome windshield pillar, which comes to an end above the door. Then there's a rubber that goes up the front edge of the door, along...

    '56 Rear spring setting

Suspension low My ’56’s suspension was sitting a bit low in the rear and noticeably lower on the left side. I fitted new top and bottom inner suspension bushes. Also 2 new coils. I also removed and dismantled the rear springs. I cleaned up the leaves, and put a bit more set in them. (re-arched...

    Carburettor issues

Thanks guys. I have naturally checked floats, fuel pressure, etc. Yes, the float valves may be at fault. I think I will go to a new Holley. Should be better all round.

    Carburettor issues

My '56 (312) has a Holley carburettor. I think, maybe, it is not original? It is not the teapot type. The numbers on it are: ECZ V , L1ST1273. I don't seem to be able to get the float level right. There is not the adjusting screw on the outside like more modern types, so bending the tang on the...

    '56 Rear spring setting

Does anyone know the correct setting of the rear leaf springs on a '56? If they were, say, standing up-side-down on the ground, what should their height measurement be?

    Hard Top latches

Hard Top Latches I see what the problem is now. My latches are made up of parts from 2 versions. I have 50590B (early '56) bayonet tips, and 50595B (56/57) shafts. This puts everything 90 degrees out. Thanks for the help.

    Hard Top latches

I have just bought my '56 a few weeks ago out of San Diego, and shipped it back home here to New Zealand. Restored 9 years, but only done 500 miles since. I have spent many hours fixing (mostly small) things that weren't done properly. I could write a book about it! The rear hard-top latches I'm...
