I just replaced the carb on my 1978 with 351M. The new carb has one less vacuum port than the old one. The missing port was for a vacuum line going into the firewall that I assume is for the heater/AC control head. With car running I found that the line was pulling a vacuum. Now I'm thinking...

Thats what the problem I had was.....not enough slack in the wires to make the connection to the new gauge. I Thanks again

The wire retainers are behind the clock pod?

Has anyone replaced the temperature gauge without removing the whole front panel? The manual says it can be done by just removing the temp guage lens. I found that difficult because of difficulty of reconnection to the wire leads.

Last battery was 4/15....I'll probably just replace it.

OK thanks Steve. The starting issue may have been the battery. I'll check my records - the battery may be older than I am thinking.

My 78 smokes a bit. Smokes a lot after sitting but not too bad once it has run a while. The car has 70,000 miles. Are valve seals a common issue? I have had the car only a short time and I believe it sat for a while. Thanks Scott
