    1965 Thunderbird, $10,000

Just so you guys know, Tbird sold at $9500. Off to a new home. This site has helped a lot in the last 4 years. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and patience. Lead came through Autotrader Classics.

    shift lever

you can get to the détente plate without steering column removal? If so I think I can do the shift lever, lower bushing and plate with a lot of patience.

    shift lever

Man o man I do not want to get into that jungle. I really appreciate the photos and captions. Really helps a lot vs shop manual. Can you get to the détente plate without removing the steering tube? My shift lever does not slide between gears. At times, when parking, I have to really make...

    shift lever

Perfect storm...all inexpensive parts, with a lot of labor and patience needed. No wonder I put this job off.

    Correct dipstick?

I will check if he replaced the filter. He may not have as I recently replaced the old as there was a leak. I will send the measurements on my stick and tube.

    shift lever

Thanks again. I have seen in the posts that when replacing the bushing, I may need to adjust the neutral safety switch on steering column. Is this trial and error or any tip there? I have a 65 and like I said the gear shift is good, just touchy. Fixes where the car doesn't start concern me.

    shift lever

Thanks for the encouragement and pointing me to that old post. I had the printout from Thunderbird ranch, just wanted some info with experienced trial and error. It appears that it is a grind but doable. So shift levers are available from the Tbird catalogs? Might as well order with the bushing.

    shift lever

I have a shift lever that stays in park but is kind of iffy about it. I have seen posts about replacing the shift lever, as the most likely suspect, or having it repaired by welding and grinding. 1st, it sounds pretty straight forward as far as removing the pin but the posts suggest this can...

    Correct dipstick?

The assumption on your measurement is that you ran the engine to get oil through the filter than measured? I just had my 65 (390) taken in to get some work done and had the oil and filter replaced by mechanic who is very good with old cars and knows Tbirds well. Receipt at home says 5 quarts.

    1965 Thunderbird, $10,000

Beautiful blue Ford Thunderbird that runs as good as it looks. I have owned it about 4 years and drive it a round 10 miles a week. I have been on this site ever since I purchased. 96K on odometer. I don't know if it has flipped but I have had the valve covers off and it is very clean as well as...

    Aftermarket radio sound

I got my radio rebuilt by a guy in Florida about 3 years back. Same faceplate and buttons but now I have FM and can connect an Ipod to it. He has speakers that fit in the dash and in the back. He is on this forum also. GaryTayman.com

    66 Swing Away Steering Wheel

My 65 works as yours does now. Move selector to park and swings all the way out of the way. Yours may need some adjustment if you really have to shove the lever up.

    Center console

Got inspired by your posts on the center console. Decided to get the latch on mine working. Pulled out the plastic insert and tinkered with the latch for awhile. Lid will now latch and the key works!

    Droopy doors

You guys are in a different league than me. I would almost leave well enough alone in this case. I show the same type of wear but my doors shut with a nice thunk and not willing to mess with it just yet. Not bad for 50 year old car. Will be interested in what you come up with.

    Center console

Original metal work. My panels were pretty worn and tried cleaning and vinyl paint but didn't come out very good. Panels are first thing I see when I open the door so I just had to bite the bullet and get it done. Reupholstering cost me less than buying the panels at the Tbird parts places...

    Center console

I am in southern CA and there are a lot of auto upholstery shops around . I took my door panels in and the guy did a great job, not original, but I think looks better. All of the hardware fits perfect. Your job is pretty small. Unless you have other work that needs to be done or have the...
