    Distributor vacuum unit

Thanks Thanks, Terry. I'll get it to pieces and see what it looks like. May phone MAC's and see what they say.

    Distributor vacuum unit

I need to replace the vacuum unit on my '64 coupe (390 4bbl). Mac's Auto parts has 2 in the catalog - 1st is 58-64 part# 66-31323-1 $24.95 2nd is 60-66 part# 66-37105-1 $29.95. Anybody have any ideas which is correct? Do I just buy the cheaper and save $5? (Both are aftermarket and have a rubber...

    Cruise-o-matic parts

so far so good Picked up the used Cruise-o-Matic today from Desert Valley Parts here in North Phoenix. Now waiting to see if Fred and Gerry at Twizted Up Toyz are satisfied with it and get the TBird fixed. While at Desert Valley, noticed a Bullet Bird convertible project car. $3950. Bit my...

    Cruise-o-matic parts

Thanks for the offer and such a quick reply. I think I finally found a complete transmission here in Phoenix. I'm waiting for it to be pulled and then we'll check if it's OK and will part successfully. I'll keep you posted.

    Cruise-o-matic parts

My transmission just died. The shift lever got disconnected from the valve shuttle in the valve block. The shuttle appears to be BENT - how I don't know. My rebuilder says it needs a replacement valve block - but where to find one, or even a good enough complete transmission we could...

    Harsh downshift

Well, at least my 64 hardtop is starting and running mostly OK, the carb stumble not as bad as it was. Bonus find!! the rear electric windows never worked; the console switches did nothing and neither did the rear ones. Replaced the lockout switch when replacing the front window switches and now...

Carb losing gas overnight, flat spot

Thanks for all the feedback. It looks like starting, it's mostly evap: it's hitting the mid 80s here; following the starting procedure in the handbook and churning a few times gets it going. Still got that carburetor stumble, worse when it's cold. The carburetor forum notes it's important to...

Carb losing gas overnight, flat spot

Thanks for suggestions. Carb has just been rebuilt but will check it's done OK. Will check fuel pump is not letting gas leak back into tank. One post on the carb. forum suggested (thanks boaterbob) suggests it could just be modern gas evaporating... Oh well, as as long as the Tbird starts...

Carb losing gas overnight, flat spot

I'm having problems with the carb (Ford) on my '64 Tbird. First, it seems to be losing the gas in the float bowls overnight (admittedly I'm in AZ so it's warm). So in the morning it's churn, churn, churn to get started. Second, the carb has been rebuilt with a kit but still has a flat spot on...

    headroom

In my 64 Hardtop I have the power seat all the way back, all the way down and it's still cramped. I'm 6'3" and "big boned" (i.e. overweight). I have decided to try fitting some thinner locknuts to the driver's seat back adjuster or leave them out so I can rake the seat more - at least then I can...

Oil pressure reading low - sometimes

Thanks for the replies, guys. Harley, I'll check that out. I am assuming the Voltage Reg is not the problem as the other gauges show no problems & read OK. Bob, thanks; where did you connect the gauge, is it electric or direct pressure and where is it mounted in the car? Sounds a good idea but I...

Oil pressure reading low - sometimes

My 64 Hardtop is running well - when it starts. Even in the warmth of AZ it needs 3/4 pumps of the gas pedal and a good grind to start. It's as if the fuel isn't staying in the carb/pipes. Once running it's fine. Biggest concern is the oil pressure reading. The oil level is OK (extra pint in the...

    Door Ajar warning

Thanks, buster53. The passenger side actually worked the light last night once when the door was opened - so it's possibly just a bad contact in the lock. Or bad earth - both window motors are getting reluctant unless the switch panel is pounded. Time to get those door panels off but not just...

    Door Ajar warning

I recently got my 64 Hardtop and am slowly getting it back to shape (replacement carb spacer, new steering column rag joint & bush, washers and air vents working, etc). Thanks to Thunderbird Connection here in Phoenix and to Thunderbird Headquarters. And I got the Door Ajar warning working -...
