drove my bird for the first time tonight

SGT, congrats on going for a ride! I too am in Indiana and pushed out an old car to go tear around last Friday and Saturday. What part of Indiana are you in? I'm guessing southern because it was warm here (Michigan City) but not 65 degrees warm.

    doing up my bird

The body, steering, paint, interior, etc of my bird is great. The motor was beat. It's being rebuilt by Jasper and being tied to a Jasper T6 trans. I'm adding A.C. (vintage air), some retro tunes, front discs and wire wheels (currently on the stock 14") to allow room for the discs. Headers...

    Too much play in steering

I have a manual at home and haven't looked at this part of it yet. I'm curious, did you follow a certain procedure? Usually this adjustment has to do with gear lash and you don't want to over tighten that otherwise you'll be grinding gears and you might not know it because of the power...

    Too much play in steering

Interesting... I finally got my new to me old (61) bird on the road. It doesn't feel like there is anything loose but the car does have a hard time finding center and then floats on center. I am going to get it up on a rack this Friday to feel for loose joints, etc but based on the age and...

    Broken primary hood release cable

Thanks for the reply IAN. I actually found that latch before I rechecked this site. I was poking around and as soon as I took the time to actually look, it was very clear. What happened was where the cable goes through the release arm, there is a little barrel that screws down on to the solid...

    Broken primary hood release cable

Hey guys Went to open my good and the release just pulled all the way out with zero tension on the cable. Uh oh... It looks like there are two primary releases in either corner on the front of the hood. Any ideas or tricks to open the first release? If not, I guess I'll just go digging. Any...

Collectible Automobile August 1990 Volume 7 Number 2

It's also available as a back issue for 8.00 bucks plus shipping of 3.00. RKP, how do you know this you might ask. Well, my friend who has been getting this mag since it's inception, told me about it and loaned it to me. Last night my wife was reading it and the thing just fell apart! I felt...

Collectible Automobile August 1990 Volume 7 Number 2

Have any of you guys seen this volume of Collectible Automobile? There is a GREAT long article on our cars (3rd gen). Well researched and well written. I have a scan I can post here if it's not frowned upon.

    Today, I joined the club!!!

Thanks Harley. I just wasn't sure if you were eluding to something else. It's a pretty clean car and seems mostly sorted out. There are a couple things I want / have to do. For one, I want to take out the front seat and add some rail extensions to push the seat back two or three inches...

    Today, I joined the club!!!

Thanks Ian! The PO is a TBiRD enthusiast. He has a sweet 57, has had a 66, and two 61's. It was nice to find it from an owner and someone who knows these cars. He has a line on a M code car and was a motivated seller. I'm going to pick it up next Saturday. It's like torture. I wish it was...

yeah Harley! Thanks for your reply in my other thread. I'm glad I found this one, it was local and I really did have my heart set on a 3rd gen over a 4th. WHy do you say WOw a 61? Is there something unique about these? I was happy it was local so I didn't have to fly or buy it site unseen...

Real world value for a 64 drop top with tonneau cover

I suppose "real world" numbers are numbers for what these cars have recently been selling for at auction or otherwise. Unfortunately, there aren't many comparable examples which have sold over the past three months on ebay so I don't know where else I can compare actually sales pricing.

Real world value for a 64 drop top with tonneau cover

Thank you for the reply Harley. What rating was your 63 roadster that you sold? The car I'm looking at appears to be a true 2. It's very, very clean with a restoration that has been done lovingly by an owner who has had the car for a long time. I guess the first part is trying to decide...

Real world value for a 64 drop top with tonneau cover

Hey guys, I've been looking at different resources and it seems there is a large disparity in values on these cars. What is a real world range for a number two (1-5 scale, 1 being concourse quality) 64 convertible? It has the rear seat cover, a 4bbl carb tied to the 390 and no wire wheels...

differences between a convertible and roadster?

Thanks a lot for the information. I'm having a friend check out a 64, 4th generation model this Saturday for me. I really like both the 3rd and 4th generations; it's almost a toss up as far as my tastes go. Thanks a lot again for the good info, it's hard to find this in a consice database or...

differences between a convertible and roadster?

Hey Guys, I'm interesting in buying a 3rd generation t-bird. What are the difference between a convertible and a roadster? Are these the differences: 3-2 carbs rear seat covers rear wheel skirts is there anything I'm missing. How much more should I pay % wise for a real roadster. Is...
