    65 feather trim and "C"

There is a new listing for a couple of used 65 feathers on eBay and the photos seem to show the sides are the matt finish argent while the face is polished, so I suspect the ones you have are correct. Not definitive. Hope this helps Terry 64HT

    65 feather trim and "C"

Pat Wilson's Thunderbird, he's in New Jersey. Web site is www.wilsontbird.com I'm sure other vendors sell the same thing. Bird's Nest in Oregon calls them a seal kit for splash shields. Terry 64HT

    65 feather trim and "C"

Pat Wilson lists front wheelwell splash shield seals and I assume most others do as well. Hope this helps Terry 64HT

    What tires?

I wasn't aware that any of the "mainstream" tire manufacturers still made whitewalls in the sizes we use. Terry 64HT

Swing away wheel is too tight to move easily.

It is a bit of a pain. The side of the console has to come off to get the lower dash pieces out. Once I'd done that, I could remove the whole mechanism. Terry 64HT

    Air Conditioner Compressor concern

You usually have to replace the receiver/dryer when converting from R12. It's located under the rad cover. If it looks original, that may be your problem. Terry 64HT

Swing away wheel is too tight to move easily.

The mechanism slides along a curved track behind the articulated dash panel the column goes through. If it has been greased in the past, the grease will often harden up and become a sticky goo that sort of grips the column pads. You need to get in there and clean it. Hope this non too clear...

    65 tonneau cover

Pat Wilson Thunderbirds list them in his catalog. I think about $900 plus shipping (it will be a big crate). He's in New Jersey. Give him a call for details. Terry 64HT

Clarify Early vs. Late Production dates

Another indication of the timing of the manufacture is the last 6 digits of the VIN. The first car off the line would probably have been 100001, so your number will give an idea as to how many were produced before it (ignore the leading 1). I think just under 80,000 cars were produced for that...

Clarify Early vs. Late Production dates

Rick, production of 1962 models began in the early fall of 1961, so yours being July of 1962 would be very late. The VIN code you gave stands for 1962 model year (2), Wixom Assembly plan (Y) and convertible body type (85). Hope this is what you are looking for. Terry 64HT

    1965 instrument voltage regulator

The little push button switch for the washers is prone to fail or move out of position, causing the washer motor to run constantly until it burns out. Good idea to check the function of this switch (power only to the motor when the washer lever is pulled) before hooking up a new motor. Terry 64HT

    Temp Gauge Replacement

If I remember correctly, there are 3 loop type retainers attached to the back of the gauge assembly that you have to undo to get enough wire slack to work on the back of the gauges. There is also a sleeve type retainer attached with two nuts the goes across the bottom of the clock pod opening...

    Temp Gauge Replacement

Opps, meant "dropping the gauge pod" Terry 64HT

    Temp Gauge Replacement

I replaced mine by drumming the gauge pod down onto the steering column (make sure you protect the column from scratches), You need the steering wheel off and the clock pod to get into the back to loosen the wire retainers. Awkward, but not too difficult. Terry 64HT

    vacuum hose

John, only two reasons for a hose at that location. It is either for vacuum door locks (if you have that option), or the emergency brake release. Since all flairbirds have this release, it is most likely. A vacuum hose goes from the side of the console to the neutral safety switch mounted on...

    Cheap, no fuss, radio replacement

My understanding was that the "A" pillar was at the windshield, the "B" between the doors and the "C" at the rear window. If the "B" wasn't there, it didn't change the naming of the others. Of course, this was before SUV, etc. I have no idea what they call them now. Terry 64HT

    Cheap, no fuss, radio replacement

I assume you mean behind the headliner on the C-pillars. How much room was there? Terry 64HT

    Brake pedal for a 1964

Both old and new have the rubber molded onto the steel backing plate. The new reproduction seems surprisingly well-made. Just not made with the right mounting bracket. I'm pretty sure heat will not loosen the rubber enough to remove it intact, and I am reluctant to attack a new piece that...

    Brake pedal for a 1964

I think this thread is about much more than a brake pedal that doesn't fit. I've attached two photos that I cribbed from the internet to show the difference in the back of the pedals. I don't see any way that something can be fabricated to make the single bolt type fit the two bolt pedal arm...

    Brake pedal for a 1964

It was removed from car during interior work a couple of years ago and was damaged while lying loose. It also had noticeable wear, from the look of both pedals and the carpet when I bought the car, a previous owner must have worn work boots a lot. All suppliers list pedals and I thought this...
