Part Search '61 rear deck filler panel

The rear deck filler panel on my '61 coupe rusted through from below because the trunk lid seal had failed and the car had sat outside for several years before I bought it. I'm checking with autobody shops to see if they can repair it, but would prefer one already in good condition. Thanks!

    62 Wiper Problem

My '61 has electric wipers with a cam on the motor shaft that pushes the rod that moves the wipers. The clip that holds the rod on flipped off and so did the rod making the wipers inoperable. So although the wipers didn't operate I could hear the motor turning. You can reach the motor through...

    Shifting correctly?

Thanks Bill - I got ahold of a service manual and read it's supposed to shift at 8mph and again at 18. That's about what it does.

    Shifting correctly?

I had the Cruisomatic on my 61 rebuilt by a guy that's reportedly a master at doing so. He said he had problems but pulled it, tinkered with it and reinstalled it several times trying to get everything right. In the end he told me it was shifting just fine. I've never driven or been in another...

    '63 Hardtop quarter windows.

Oh, the source for the couplers and rollers - any of the T-Bird part shops should have them.

    '63 Hardtop quarter windows.

If the motors are running chances are the rubber coupling connecting the motor to the regulator has cracked and broken. They're cheap and easy to replace. One of my windows was out of its track and had been wedged at the top to hold it in place. I have no idea what happened to it. It hadn't...

    New here, and some questions

Looks like a beauty whatever it is. The '61 hood is the only one that had the raised ribs near the edges - that's what you have and I agree the front fenders and doors appear to be from a '61 or '62 and the grill in the old picture is a '61. The courtesy lights and mirror controls on the...

    Headliner install question

Piece of cake. I found a couple of helpful videos online - following their tips, I got the bows in the headliner and the whole thing installed with very little problem. I did a practice run putting the bows in the roof of the car before putting them in the headliner. I think that helped.

    Headliner install question

Has anyone installed a headliner in a bullet bird? I have the new headliner and the bows from the original, plus factory instructions from '61 on installing. I've also searched on the web and the question I can't find the answer to is how to put the bows in the new headliner. Do you straighten...

    carb and choke issues

I don't know much about carbs, but I do know the fuel evaporates away. I just start mine every weekend and let it run for a bit during winter/bad weather when I don't want to drive it. It starts pretty quickly when I do that. If I let it set, I either have to prime or crank it for a while.

    shifting problems !

Mine did the same, plus it was dripping so I took it in for a rebuild. A 75-year old gentleman who rebuilt Cruisos for years did it. Something inside had broken - I think one of the band attachments + something in the control valve body wasn't operating just right. Shifts good now. About...

    Interior fixup

I decided to redo the interior this winter - bought a number of items including seat covers and dash pad. Anybody replaced their vinyl seat covers, and if so how much heat is needed to relax the vinyl without scorching it? The blow dryer doesn't seem to be all that effective. Also, to replace...

    Great Screw Up, Try It

I'm interested. So you just painted and then immediately wiped it off? Were your panels originally tinted and did you then tint them again or just leave them as-is? I'm getting ready to do mine and will tint them beige. I planned to just scotch-brite them and then tint. Just wondering if...

    shudder on right turn

I just replaced the power steering gear and the idler arm assembly and it doesn't shudder anymore. Not sure if it was one or both of the components, though suspect it was the idler arm. The gear was worn and leaky so it needed to go anyway. A little pricey, but a good move.

    Steering Sensitivity 62 Bird

My '61 was that way, but the power steering gear was worn out - It was dripping and much easier to turn to the left than the right - textbook example. I just got it back tonight after having the gear replaced. It's a lot stiffer, in fact maybe too much so, but it drives straight down the road...

    shudder on right turn

I've had a shudder develop on right turns in my 61 HT - when you go around a corner. It's felt throughout the car, but appears to be in the back. Sometimes it doesn't happen, but mostly it does. I've talked with several mechanics about it, and they scratch their heads. When I first noticed...
