My first thought would be the battery. Just because it is new does not mean it isn't defective. Take it to a auto parts store and get it checked. You should also take the alternator along and get it tested at the same time. It is one or the other that is defective. Bob.

I see one problem right away. Adding a shim to raise the engine(even a little) will cause the drive shaft to bind inside the torque converter, and flatten the teeth on both surfaces(that is if the shaft doesn't break first) Another thing to consider would be added strain on the front...
