    My 56 just stopped running on the freeway

    Run the engine in the garage, in the dark with the hood lifted and see if you can see any shorting. There may be a hairline crack in the distributor cap which will show up like a Christmas tree in the dark. Another possible is a failing coil. Rick

    Hey Mike I'm pretty sure the 312 wasn't available until 1956. Are you sure it is a 312? If it's the original engine it could also be a bored out 292. Good luck Rick

    If it's the original 'box it's a 3 speed. Don't forget these early Birds pull away in second gear so people often think they're only a 2 speed. Richard

    If you're running a Holley (T-pot) 4000 you've got the earlier intake manifold so your choices are somewhat limited and you've got to take into account your distributor which I'm guessing is the old Loadomatic type which is not compatible with any carb post '57 (which is where nearly all carb...
