    Shift Lever Problem

Turns out the spring button WAS the obstruction. The sucker was so tight it would have held up the Great Wall of China. Finally, after repeated, and I do mean repeated attempts, and some choice words, I got the button to move and got the lever in.

    Shift Lever Problem

Tried putting the old one back, too, to no avail. I wonder if I knocked something out of place when I removed the original?

    Shift Lever Problem

I decided to put a new shift lever in to perhaps allow me to start the car without lifting up the lever. I got the old lever out, but can't get the new one to go in. I've oiled the bushing, but that is not the problem. I've tried to put the lever in without the bushing and can't get it to go in...

    Tail Lights Flashing

The only thing flashing was the taillights. I decided to start my problem solving yesterday morning with the simplest things. I changed the flasher under the dash and put new connectors on the wires, and lo and behold, the taillights stopped flashing ... for the time being. Didn't know a flasher...

    Tail Lights Flashing

My taillights in my 64 have begun to constantly flash. There is no emergency flasher in this car. They do not flash when I use the turn signal indicator, but as soon as it cancels, the flashing starts again. My gas gauge works every three or fours months. It has suddenly decided to work again...

    Vacuum Problems

Thanks, Captain Mike, I may do that some day. I've survived another hot SC summer without the AC, however, and may decide to give up.

    vent window crank

I ordered the special door handle wrench from Larry's T-Bird to remove the panel on my '64. I couldn't get it to work, so I went by the local body shop and the owner had the same wrench! He lined the open end with the vent window crank handle and the handle came off in a second. Using the tool...

    Power Windows 64

That's what the wiring book says, too, but I still can't seem to find it. Is it obvious or hidden under something? This car was wired to allow the windows to operate with the ignition off. Any idea how this was done? I have located what looks to be a regulator near the fuse box. Any idea what...

    Power Windows 64

My power windows in my 64 were working sporadically, either all were working or none were working. My nephew saw a spark in the passenger side front switch, so I ordered a new switch, installed it, but none of the windows work now. I've tried most of the suggestions in the repair manual, but it...

    Vacuum Problems

Thanks, Joe. I'll try that too. It's beginning to get hot in South Carolina and I could really use the AC.

    Gages not working

In Nov. 2001 my 64 T-Bird backfired and my oil, gas and temp gauges suddenly stopped working. I too bought the instrument voltage regulator, but have not installed it. I got the backfiring problem repaired, but two weeks ago, after six months of no backfiring and no gauges, the car backfired as...

    Vacuum Problems

Thanks Dutch and Joe for the suggestions. The air is blowing on my feet and the compressor is engaging, so I guess I'm going to be looking for loose hoses, etc. Also, I just ordered the mounting bracket for the outside rear view mirror.

    Vacuum Problems

I've owned my 64 for almost a year and I love it, but I, and two experienced mechanics, have not been able to figure out why my heater and AC don't work. I spent the money for a new compressor, but that didn't solve the problem. The blower motor works, but nothing comes out of the AC vent. Any...
