    Proper seat care?

If your car has a stock interior that's "correct" for 1964, it's either the standard vinyl interior or the optional leather interior with leather bolsters. Presuming it's vinyl, there's probably several opinions on the best way to clean it. Someone on this list suggested cleaning dirty vinyl...

    Electronic Sequential Turn Signals.

The guy in Vancouver, BC, Canada that you need to contact is named Gus Fortier. John Draxler at the Thunderbird Ranch sells their products and would know how to contact Gus. Visit www.tbirdranch.com and contact Mr. Draxler. He's extremely helpful and a great guy.

    Electronic Sequential Turn Signals.

There's been talk on this site before of a newer product that replaces the original electro-mechanical sequential tail-light system with a fool-proof solid-state electronic system. The replacement kit was developed originally for 67-69 Mercury Cougars but can be installed on 65-71 Tbirds also...

    suspension compatability

Well-known Thunderbird restorer Lance Herrington perfected the first "anti-sway" bars for classic Tbirds and started selling and installing them in the mid-eighties. They've become very popular because they reduce the "floating sofa" effect of the factory suspension. Visit his website at...

    M-Series Tripower / Stock on a '61?

Discussing a possible trade of my '64 for a '61 with a tri-power carb setup. The '61 owner states that the tripower on his '61 was dealer-installed and therefore "correct". I've always understood the tripower was only stock for 62 & 63 and denoted by an "M" code in the VIN#. My thought is...

How Do I track the history of my t-bird

I've spent time tracking down the history of my '64 from both ends (so to speak). Paid $35 for a copy of the original factory gate release which confirmed the original Ford dealership that sold the car. If your original dealership still exists, they may have old records on file..but I wasn't...

    This may be pushing it...

The various Thunderbird parts suppliers sell this spacer. I'd suggest calling Concourse Parts at (800) 722-0009 and asking them the dimensions. They should pull one off the shelf, measure it, and give you a quick answer. Good luck.

    Ford Newbie

The only engine offered in the 65 Tbird was the 390 FE. If you're confident the car has its original engine, then its a 390 FE by default. This engine carries the FE designation because it was designed in the late 50's to replace the Ford Y-block and would be used in both Fords (F) and Edsels (E).

    Where has everyone gone ?

Harley, Glad to see you're still active and on this site. I haven't logged on in over 4 months because not much was going on here. Now that a lot of Birds are in the garage for winter storage, postings appear to be on the upswing. Keep on dispensing wisdom and we'll keep on taking it in...

    Holley Carburetor on '65

The Holley carb on your car was definitely added sometime later. The stock carb that Ford installed at the factory was an "Autolite 4100". Similar four-barrel setup as the Holley and pretty reliable to boot.

    Steering wheels available?

My 64 also had a cracked, chipped steering wheel. Rather than remove it and send it off to one of several steering wheel restorers that advertise in Hemmings, I purchased a used 64 steering wheel sight unseen for $30 from "Classic Ford Sales" -- a used Ford parts supplier in Dixfield, Maine. I...

    Bumpers

I've heard stories about Bumper Boyz lack of quality -- so be cautious. They show up at all the big National swap meets (Hershey, Auburn, etc.) with two tractor trailers full of rechromed bumpers to sell. They'd probably have 64 Tbird bumpers on hand, but after a few months, the chrome may...

Send an email to Jim Cockerham in Winston-Salem who's the club president of the Carolina Thunderbird Club. He might know a good local source for those bumpers. His email is [email protected]. If no luck, try Hollywood Classic Cars in Hallandale, FL who have parted-out and restored over 200...
