    Windshield

Thanks for the answer. I did buy the Eastwood kit a few weeks ago - haven't tried it yet, but plan to. I'll let you know how it works.

    VIN tag

Any suggestions for refurbishing the VIN tag? This is a 57 - and the basic problem is oxidation. All of the Black is still in tact, but there is surface oxidation - can't tell if it is under the black or on top. Thanks Brian

    Windshield

I'm getting ready to restore my windshield. Is there any tips for making sure the glass is scratch free? I'm not talking about deep scratches, but just the normal 50 year wear and tear? For instance, is it worth buffing? And with what material, and what kind of solution, other than water...

    3 spd OD transmission

57 312 3 spd od Any one have the standard shift? Please check this for me: Part 7521 is the Clutch release rod, that goes to the throw out fork. It is mounted to the Clutch release equalizer bar. Question: is it mounted to the engine side of this bar, or the frame side of this bar? Reason...

    Candlestick mounts

I know - I asked that question this morning before I got to the book , and sure enough, the answer was right in the book. It's nice that they have those dimension - you never know how far to crush those rubber spacers. By the way, that would be a nice little project for someone - do a funny...

    Candlestick mounts

57 bird 312 3spd OD frame up: I'm mounting the engine / trans combo this week. Any pointers for proper adjustment of the candlestick engine mounts? These were the factors I asssumed I should follow: 1 Mount engine/trans assembly to the front mount and the trans mount with candles sticks...

    trans mount question

You are right Tom, the flanges go downward. Looking closer, the holes in the frame member are like slots, allowing for front to back movement of the mount bolts. BUT, this channel has sized bolt holes which apparently locate the mount properly. I am suprised this isn't in any of the regular T...

    trans mount question

This is a 57 bird with 3spd OD. I have an extra part I can't account for in the various parts books. Under my trans mount, I have a channel that fits between the mount and the frame. It has two holes that line up perfectly. I'm sure it goes there ( I made good notes when I took it apart)...

    '57 brake light problem

While you are on this subject, is anyone aware of a dual master cylinder that can be installed in the '57?

    Resonator

That's what I'm really trying to understand, Winston! What is it really for? That is, what are the ramifications of leaving it off? That is, (other than concourse violations) what will be pro's and cons?

    Resonator

I'll ask that "inside alumizied" question next week. Jim - you feel that your stainless steel set up retains more heat? And I do intend to drive this car around! Fact is, I just can't wait: when will it ever be done!

    Resonator

Casco is selling the aluminized systems. You are right about the rust factor in cleveland, and the minimal driving of the car: I'm worried about that condensation as well. My main concern was how different the system would sound with or without the resonator. Of course Clevelands flat, cold...

    Resonator

Tom - I like the hotly contested debate: it gets the blood flowing, and allows you to talk passionately about what you love. After driving that car for an hour, the difference in the coefficient of thermal expansion between the carbon steel and the stainless steel must be great enough to cause...

    Resonator

Opinion time: I understand the resonator for '57 is required for concourse, but what does it do for the car? What are the pro's and con's of keeping it or leaving it off? I intend to put on a stainless exhuast, so I save quite a few dollars if I leave it off. Second question: has any one...

    57 Dash Pad

That's good news. I'll be next after you report. I've got my dash painted and on a stand, ready to install the pad; just have a few other priorities. Have to start buying other things too, like wire harness, etc. And I've yet to redo my gauges.

    57 Dash Pad

You are so right Tom D., got my wires crossed. Sorry for your loss. Glad to see you could make it back to the forum. Comments have been sparse lately.
