No, mine aren't, and I know because fiberglass doesn't rust. :) Darel

What is the correct ignition timing on a 390

My manual (1961 T-Bird) says anywhere in the range of 2-10 BTDC is acceptable.

    Need carb choice advice

I have a '61 T-Bird with a '66 C6ME-A block (most likely a 390, but will check crank eventually) and original '61 "dressings" (at least the carb and accessories). As far as I know it's stock but since the engine was swapped anything is possible. Anyway, I'm going to replace my factory carb. I...

    '61-'63 aluminum interior trim questions

I just tore out my interior from my '61 and I have a couple of questions about the aluminum trim panels. Are they painted silver or is that just the oxidation? In some spots they are scratched and the metal underneath looks much brighter. What is the best way to go about restoring these...

    Leaded to Unleaded Fuel....

Sorry to sound so curt with you. Click on the following link if you want to see a thread I started on Auto Restorer On-Line about some more efficient ways to get older engines to run on pump gas. If you scroll down, look for threads that are about shimming heads, or just do a search for my...

Positraction Condition Testing - Ford 9"

OK, I finally got my service manual in the mail. It states that the equa-lok diff should break away at 100 ft-lbs, anything less and it should be rebuilt. Sorry, I guess I was off initially. Darel

Positraction Condition Testing - Ford 9"

I should qualify that - a NEW or otherwise lightly used Trak-Lok should break away at 90 ft-lbs. I would bet anything over 60 is still pretty good for a 40-year-old car. Darel

Positraction Condition Testing - Ford 9"

You got it right, you need to block one end (try wedging a bar crosswise through two of the studs so it rotates into the ground) and put a torque wrench on the other. I don't know what kind of posi these cars had, but if it's a Trak-Lok it should break free at 90 ft/lbs. Other LSDs may be...

    What tranny fluid?

What tranny fluid do the Cruise-O-Matics take? Owner's manual says "type A" - what does that convert to in modern terms? Darel

    Power Window Failure

I just had one of my motors rebuilt because it wouldn't turn one way. The guy that rebuilt it said he found a broken wire and resoldered it, but even after new brushes and turning the commutator on the lathe he said it ran really hot and not to expect too much more life out of it. Oh, well...

How to remove headlight switch on '61 Bird?

I really don't want to break this switch, so how do I remove it from the dash? Once I have it loose the knob is in the way to pull it through. Does the knob unscrew or do you just pull it harder and it pops out? What is the little button for on the bottom of the switch? Thanks, Darel

Brake pedal return spring or booster problem?

I have a '61 T-Bird that I have to hold the brake pedal up with my toe (or a bungie, as I have it right now) to keep it from depressing and "riding" the brakes. I haven't found a return spring on the pedal, so is it inside the bore of the master cylinder, then? Or is this a booster problem? The...
