    Name That Wire!

OK, while the others think of MY problem (lol) I'll try and assist! Is the wire you mentioned a factory fitted item? - like it's actually part of the main loom once it is inside the car? Or does it look like an 'add-on'? Would it be for a hidden kill switch or maybe for part of now disused...

    Name That Wire!

Thing is though Harley, my tail-lights that have one wire going to them have two filaments just like the regular tail-lights, I guess one filament is tail-light, the other brake/turn signal.?? How are they controlled by one wire?? (if the other wire is for back-up lights) Wiring diagram shows...

    Name That Wire!

Sorry to hijack this post a bit but I have a similar problem, the centre section of my tail-light assembly has five light sockets - two I know are back-up lights, the other three are two-filament fittings. The thing is, the loom to these five lights has only two wires, how does this handle the...

Reversing lights (Back-up lights in the USA)

Thanks for that tbirdjim, I guess I'll have to look at the switch or fuse, there is no current to the plug by the right-hand tail-lights. Still a bit of fiddling to be done to get a good conact for the bulbs but I'll perervere!!!

Reversing lights (Back-up lights in the USA)

Pulled the centre lense off my '66 today to see why the bach-up lights don't work and discovered three extra red 'dome' light-bulb covers over aforementioned bulbs. My tail-lights/turn-signals work but none in the centre section work including back-up lights.(some bulbs looked pretty corroded...

    where to start with windows

I see what you mean - but it wasn't TOO hard! (putting it back in place and hooking up the mechanism might be a different story) Motor does not seem to want to work -it's down at the local auto-sparky place for a check-over. Doesn't seem to matter what wiring combination I use, all i get are...

    Pertronix Conversion

Can't help except to say that I run one of those resistors that look like a house-hold fuse, seems to work fine. As far as the resistor wire is concerned, maybe it has more resistance than the type of resistor I use??

    Bypassing Transisitorized Ignition on '65

I have had NO trouble in various V8s with a Petronix/fat wire/Mallory coil set-up, my '66 Bird has already had a Petronix kit fitted before I bought it and I'll leave it there. Sparks don't 'jump to the top of a piston', I've hotted up and raced a lot of engines and too much ignition advance and...

    New Zealn T'Bird

Ahhh! Thanks for that info! Took out wiper-motor, it's down at the local workshop being checked over to see where it is leaking from, is there any particular place they leak? Mine looks like it COULD be the bottom shaft that works the wiper linkages.

#@+& Windows Looks like I'll have to take out drivers side electric window motor, any tips and/or hazards in this operation? Does the motor come out without removing any other components?

Thanks guys, how good or bad are Cruisomatics compared to a C-6??? I was always under the impression that the 'C' in C-6 (& C-4) stood for Cruisomatic. Here in New Zealand we had a FMX transmission behind some 351s and 390s (not that we ever got many 390s!!) - or at least that's what it's...

    New Zealn T'Bird

Computer is working again (still not perfect). Anyway, I've only had dealings with 385 series C-6 autos (429-460) and they have a one-piece transmission housing, the trans in my '66 has (or appears to have) a removable bell-housing and the pan looks different, do '66 T-birds with 390s come out...

    where to start with windows

Thanks for that Harley, I'll go out tomorrow and re-try the motor, I was using a battery on the garage floor and two thin 'jumper-lead' type wires to test. I never realise the wires changed colour, I just though somebody had monkeyd with the wiring.!!

    New Zealn T'Bird

Thanks for that Harley, I've just got back in from the garage and had spotted a vacuum switch linked to the shifter and was wondering if that's what it was for, thanks for confirming it for me.. Just checked why the setbelt and door ajar etc lights were not working in the Safety Control Panel...

    where to start with windows

I never noticed what the colors were (will go out now and try the window using you color description for the appropriate wires) but it seemed like the wires 'crossed over' in the loom from the driver door at one end and the console switch at the other. Can't wait for my workshop manual to...

    where to start with windows

Likewise! I suspect something is not right with the wiring as when I tested the wires by hooking up power to the 'outside' terminal of the three-wire plug in the door it made the centre terminal 'live' on the three-wire plug at the console switch end, any ideas anybody??

    where to start with windows

Doing the same myself - there is a 'live' wire that looks like it has been assed on, it attaches to the brass strips on the back of the main window switches, is this normal? It seems odd too that the connecting plugs have three connections but only two wires get to the switch???

    New Zealn T'Bird

Parking brake Excuse the ignorance but where is the release for the parking brake on a '66 T'bird? The last car I drove with that set-up was a '67 Caddy and it had a small pull-lever below the dash - but I can't see one on my 'bird. BTW, it's called the 'hand-brake' in cars in New Zealand, the...

Update on 66' tbird from a new owner.

Thanks Harley - ya had me going when you mentioned 'gear-box', here in New Zealand that's what we call a transmission! The nearest dealer I would get those seals from would probably be in the US unless some importer of repro Ford type stuff stocks them (VERY unlikley) in NZ. Are those seals a...

Update on 66' tbird from a new owner.

Got my t-bird as per my other posting, discovered the s'box leak is at the bottom of the s'box - not the hose fittings, anybody care to let me know what kind of a repair job I'm heading for- apart from taking the s'box out? (and THAT looks like a real mission - any tips for that would be...
