    Dashboard lights

The rheostat operates the lights from dim to bright. Once you get all the way bright there is one more detent that you can turn the headlight switch. This action will cause the interior lights to turn on (Same as if you open the door) There really is no other override to operate the lights in...

    windshield washer pump

If I remember correctly the pump mounts to the outside of the floor and there is only the pedal sticking up inside the car. I've attached a page from one of my books.

    muffler heat shield for 57

I have worked on newer cars that have some heat shielding there so it is probably not a bad thing to try. I have heard many complaints about hot floors / carpets making it uncomfortably warm inside the car. I myself have just started a frame off on my 1955 Thunderbird. I plan to put the heat /...

    resto-mod 55 Tee-bird project

this is a response I got on another Thunderbird web site: 'Body Shop' metal is filthy, with draw compound oil, hand prints, weld flash, etc. "Ford cars are treated with phosphate to etch and clean steel frames and body assemblies. Phosphate also leaves a black-ish film which protects it for a...

    Electronic tach

I'm not anywhere near working my dash yet but there is a combination TACH-VAC gauge offered by CASCO. I should think you could also find a tach at someplace like Summit that you could modify to fit nicely in the bird. If you want to maintain the correct needle color you can buy the paint from...

    resto-mod 55 Tee-bird project

Hi Ed, I took a closer look at mine. I carefully cleared away material until I got down to metal. Mine is similar to yours. I have a brownish / black layer at the metal and then what looks almost like a "skim" coat then white finish (smooth / shiny) paint. I am going to the local "old Birds"...

    resto-mod 55 Tee-bird project

I have been going out to the garage for short times when the temperature gets to be over 50 degrees. That won't happening for much longer. Anyway, I have been scraping the paint and bondo off the car one section at a time. So far I have done both side rear quarters and the doors. I am getting...

    resto-mod 55 Tee-bird project

Hi Ed, The flash drive (with return envelope SASE) is already in the mail on its way to you. If you feel that there is really nothing to share I understand. You decide what you want to do. You can either throw the drive away (it was only $5 and I tip more that that when I go out for breakfast...

    resto-mod 55 Tee-bird project

old garage and new garage. Last week I picked up my new 9,000 pound 2-post lift and a new rottisserie. They will be in some of my future pictures as I work on the car.

These are pics of the exterior when I pulled it from storage in my old garage (before I built the new garage) last year

    resto-mod 55 Tee-bird project

Thank you Paul. These pics are what it looked like when I bought the car. The floors were many pieces of metal tacked in to cover the rust / holes underneath. Nothing was properly welded / patched. When I drove the car through a puddle my legs would get wet. FYI - data plate shows car was...

    resto-mod 55 Tee-bird project

I bought the car in the fall of 1975. Yes! 41 years ago. It was a running / driving vehicle in need of much work when I bought it. It had been modded to a 289 three speed and converted to 12V. It was painted primer gray and the red / white interior was really only a seat cover and dash cover...

    resto-mod 55 Tee-bird project

Hi, I have a 1955 Thunderbird that I purchased many many years ago. I am going to do a resto-mod on this car and wondered if anyone on this site might be interested in pics and information as I go along with the project. Heck some of you may even offer up some valuable suggestions to me that...

    Disc Brake Conversion

Point taken. I must add that I have had a few very good conversations with the technical people at Hill's. I had some questions about taking the body off the frame and they have been VERY helpful!

    Front coil spring replacement

Any update? My '55 has a 302 / automatic in it now. The original engine / trans was definitely heavier. As a result of the powertrain swap my front rides a little higher. I was thinking about putting in dropped spindles but the spring change could be another option.

    Disc Brake Conversion

disc brake conversion I am looking at getting a conversion kit from Kanter. The conversion I am looking at will require that I move the battery because I want the power booster mounted on the firewall. You might consider it a bit pricey at $1200. It seems to me that everywhere else I have found...

    Brake lights

Has a bulb been replaced recently? Is it the right P/N? You can check the ground problem by just using a jumper to ground the taillight body directly. If the light brightens when you touch the additional ground lead then you need to go to where ever the grounds are along the harness and recheck...
