I would agree. I have been told that to have my 64's 390 done I should expect to pay 1500-3000 depending on what I want done and the like. I may pull the motor my self and haul it to someone and haul it back and put it back in on my own. I would think that will help cut the cost down.

How far are your from Cincy? How many miles? Orig trans? How oil does it burn per month (I have owned one of these be4). All windows still go up and down? Windshield wipers working correctly? Cloth inter? Air work?

Sounds like pinging to me. Could be a exhaust manifold leak that you can not hear at idle. Have you tried openign the hood and rev the motor a little at the linkage to see if it does it then, then you could hear where it's coming from a little better. Your not sure it is not pinging? Your...

Am I right in saying that the motors them self do not have anything stamped on them that ties it to the specific car? Alone from it being the same motor type, 390 etc, if it's the rigth color for the year it's in and has all the CORRECT stuff on it you can not tell the diff?

Mine has NO oil pressure! Did you have to pull the motor to get to the pump? Did you have to take off mounts and pull it up a little to get to the pump?
