COM takes a while to warm up

Here's a drive I did today documenting the issue. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSqcU02rabM

Is it OK to disconnect power steering from a '57?

In a pinch, just disconnect the belt to the power steering pump. Steering effort will suffer, but it will get you home without running a pump dry.

    Fuel Sending Unit on '66

It is a variable resistor. Test the resistance with a volt-ohm meter as you move the arm up/ down.

    Brake pedal for a 1964

Such is the life of the owner of an antique car that is not a Mustang or Camaro. I estimate that about 1/3 to 1/2 of the parts that I have purchased either don't fit or were complete junk. Looking at your pictures, are both steel backing plates the same size? If so you could just replace the...

    Brake pedal for a 1964

If they look the same from the front I'd just fabricate something. This thread is a little funny to me since I've said many times about my resto-mod that the brake pedal is the only thing that I have not removed/ replaced in my car.

    57 T bird Steering gear

Mine's a '64, but I rebuilt mine recently and the basic steps should be the same. Remove the Pitman arm. Buy the largest puller you can find that will still fit. (I used one for a large pick-up truck.) While you are down under measuring, hit the top of the arm at the shaft with PB blaster to...

camshaft to wake up an old girl

What you do to your car, all original or modified, is totally up to you. I don't own a museum so I chose to modify my '64 Hardtop with the 390. My goal was basically the same as you stated in post 1; I wanted just a bit more performance, yet smooth idle and good economy. I also wanted it to last...

    56 Temp Gauge not working

If the gauge rests at H then goes to C at key on then the gauge itself is working. Normal operating range is 180 to 210F or a little higher. From my experience with several Fords, not this particular year, the high end of the normal temperature range should be about the 1/2 way point on the...

    56 Temp Gauge not working

Macs has sold me plenty of inferior parts over the years, since so much stuff nowadays is made in China. But at least you have someone to answer the phone and return the part to.

    56 Temp Gauge not working

55s and earlier Fords were all 6 volt systems, from the battery and throughout. In '56 Ford went to 12 volt systems, and the gauges were designed for 12 volts as well. After '56 Ford started to use a 6 volt regulator to power the gauges: fuel level, coolant temperature and oil pressure. So the...

What gas mileage do you get?

Not the same model but in my '65 I'm currently averaging about 14 on a trip, which means some interstate driving, some 2 lane, very little city. It will go down to mid 10 if all I do is local driving. I'm currently working on improving that with some tuning, basically getting as much ignition...

    Picture Of rod Needed

Looks like a choke rod or throttle connection to a carburetor.

    Vacuum hoses messed up

By the way all those black phosphate body bolts and screws, that is a factory finish, similar to Parkerizing, developed for firearms back during WW2. It is a porous finish that will last forever as long as they have a tiny amount of oil saturated into the molecule deep finish. Clean them with...

    Vacuum hoses messed up

Your second picture shows the accumulator, a line going back to the port through a check valve. I assumed that was already connected. Use a vacuum tester on each part so you know it works. Otherwise troubleshooting becomes a nightmare.

    Vacuum hoses messed up

I forgot about the transmission- yes that gets connected to the manifold port as well, the vacuum modulator. I believe that the accumulator supplies the cabin vacuum. This is so stuff works after the engine is shut down. This does the E-brake release, the vacuum motors to the rear window vent...

    Vacuum hoses messed up

No keep that port plugged unless you find out that you need it. It is common to have unused ports, again, depending on what options need them.

    1965 instrument voltage regulator

If your gas gauge works then the voltage regulator works. Ground out the sender wire at the temperature sender- it should send the gauge full hot. Same with the fuel sender.

    Vacuum hoses messed up

I have a 64 hardtop with no options so my vacuum system may be different, but I can still give you some advice. The brass fittings that you show in the fitting- if they are original, don't be concerned that you have to connect every port. The largest one looks like it's your PCV system. The...

    Doughnut spare for 1955?

I haven't used a spare in years. Just a can of slime.
