Thanks Terry, got it and it's on the way.

Glad you got yours working. I screwed up and missed the one on ebay (at least I think I did) so I'm still looking for a latch. Not a high priority but it's the only thing on the car that's not complete.

    Two Wire Distributor?

Terry, couple of things. If you have gotten by that long with full power I would be pretty confident the coil is ok that way. You are probably better off that way as your burn time and spike KV are going to be better with the higher voltage (In reality I don't think you will see a difference in...

    Two Wire Distributor?

I think your saving grace here is that the car is old. If you are lucky it will fire right up and you might have to deal with charging issues (also maybe not). If you ever wonder why the starter works both ways, it changes polarity on the armature but also on the field windings which keeps the...

    Two Wire Distributor?

(That was me Terry). Points arcing was the primary reason for the reduced voltage. The other reason was that original coils were designed to run on the lower current draw so they would not fail to overheat. Even modern electronic ignition ran resistance wire for this reason (Ford Dura spark and...

    Two Wire Distributor?

On a better computer now with a better monitor and looked at your pictures better. Your battery IS wired backwards. Your black cable is wired to the solenoid which is on your negative post. I had the pleasure of working on a truck once that had a battery that was charged backwards. Oddly enough...

    66 Swing Away Steering Wheel

The adjustment is very easy under the dash for the lockout. Mine works smoothly in park with no other effort and I have it adjusted to where it can't quite achieve reverse when over about 1 inch. Your mechanic might have been more concerned with safety but you should be able to back it off a...

    Two Wire Distributor?

Only one other note. The Pertronics will work with the resistance wire. This does however give you a failure point. Resistance wire is sheathed right off the igniton switch and can fail at the connector where it goes back into regular wire. With the charging system at 14.4 volt on mine I run...

    Cruise control

Yeah, I kinda got that idea. The really bad looking parts on EBAY sold for close to 900 bucks. Glad I didn't bite. Thanks for the input

    Hotwire a 57

Studied a diagram and I think you are ok. Make sure the battery is charged however as I don't think the generator will fire off without the gen light being hooked up. If the battery is healthy no charge shouldn't be a problem on a short drive. The switch should not need to be grounded.

    Dash re-cover on 57

The short answer is yes, you can drive it to the body shop. Long answer has an "if" with it . Circuit protection was pretty lack luster back then and Ford liked to leave power sources exposed. Make sure EVERYTHING is wire tied to not touch a hot source. It is easily possible to have a high...

    Center console

Gotta admit...thats pretty sweet. I have a decent door panel but that puts mine to shame. Was that a new chrome center piece or did you have to make yours that nice? <gettin jealous here. Your upholstery guys are good.

    Cruise control

I am eyeballing a used cruise control set on Ebay but I have not seen one with cruise....questions: What did they use for switches? I don't see them in the picture. Also are they "surgy" or did they hold speed pretty well? Seen a few posts on them being troublesome. Last: Is the servo diaphram...

    Center console

On a related note> someone is parting out console and dash stuff (red) on Ebay right now that is pricey but looks better than I have seen before.

    64 heater coil replacement

BTW....looking at my old box and Steve's picture you could cut the firewall and get it out but your going to carve up a perfectly good firewall in the process. If these cars eat them every few years it is always an option but grounding the core and/or installing a restricter in the heater hose...

    64 heater coil replacement

Pulled mine on my 65 for A/C conversion. Assuming yours is non A/C you do NOT have to pull the dash though you do have to pull the box out. It doesn't come off hard. Had mine out in 2 hrs (but have to admit I do this for a living). When you pull the chrome trim (it pulls straight out but you...

    Center console

Hey, if you get a chance...post a pic of your door. I'd like to see it. Mine are in good shape but I like looking at customized stuff on these. I'm keeping mine till I die or can't drive (I'm only 54) so I like the idea of making the car look nice to me, not necessarily original.

    Center console

Probably true. I think I'm going to try a small amount of vinyl repair. Im not opposed to having it recovered without the seam if I can go leather but my thoughts were that the corners might have some ugly folds. Seen some pretty good motorcycle seat repair though and this is kinda the same...
