1966 transmission leaking from filler tube

I'm going to speculate you nicked the seal putting the tube back in. It's supposed to back up from the torque converter draining after being shut off. Another cause could be if the support bracket is bent ant the tube flex's off to one side when tightened down. Did the tube go down fairly snug?

    1965 TBIRD power steering issue

The pump doesn't know direction. The problem is in the box

    Driver's side power window

What did the mechanics do to solve this? These windows are a ghost of problems and I do this for a living. Voltage tests need to be done right at the window motor. I have a right rear vent window that loves to torture me when it feels like it and I've replaced everything that pertains. All of my...

    65 leaking oil

It depends on the leak. Most of these products work well with rubber but not so much on cork. They have a petroleum distillate which reexpands the rubber. I've used a lot of the Lucas brand at the shop with very good results on newer cars. If the seals or gaskets are near rock hard they will not...

    Driver's side power window

I'm with Stubbie on this one. 4 ways to install and only one works. Make sure it is winding tight as it goes down.

    Fussy hot start

The phenolic spacer is probably the best you can do but I just used the thicker composite that would fit an 85 ford truck with a 460 between the aluminum spacer and the carb. They hot soak problem was much better for starting though I still have to give it throttle for about 10 seconds on a hot...

COM takes a while to warm up

Don't want to to Be the one with the bad news here but drop the transmission and start over. The clutch pack material means something is badly wrong.... To low or high of control pressures etc.Torque converter should have never let the first problem happen. Actually sounds like a band hung up or...

Thanks for the info. It wasn't the answer I wanted but was the answer I needed!

    65 feathers

Due to hail damage I am stripping the exterior of the car to fix and repaint . Side chrome not an issue but the "feathers" are scaring me. Part of them are just an insert but the main fasteners dont pop. Heard something break and stopped on one. Do I need to pull the fender well to un bolt? The...

    Signal indicators on fenders

Mine didn't work when I first got my bird. They ground from the inside of the fender. Though mine didn't look horribly corroded there was enough oxidation on the fender it wouldn't make contact. A little sanding (though the retaining nuts kinda suck to get to) and problem solved. If the problem...

    351M Timing Chain Change

We used to rebuild a lot of these yrs ago and for the life of me can't remember if we used early model timing kits on these . Rule of thumb here. Advanced timing increases low end power, retarded is for higher rpm. Yes, it was done for emission purposes as retarded timing produced more heat...

    Fuel sending unit

Classic auto parts shows them but I see they are currently out of stock. An idea though, I have taken apart and cleaned quit a few of these with success depending on what is wrong with yours, The brass float in yours should fit a wide range of years which is a common part and just snaps in if...

    Relays

Glanced at your headlight schematic and your low beams are pretty simple. You only have two choices at this point assuming the new dimmer is not defective which would be unusual. You either have an open (probably at one of the connection points) in the Red / Black wire OR (Don't laugh at me for...

    Gas Gauge, Temp Gauge

Temp gauge is probably a bad sending unit on the top of the intake manifold (close to where the upper radiator goes or mounted straight out the front above the water pump depending on which engine you have). Should be a single wire connector that just pushes on. Ground the wire and the gauge...

    Neutral safety switch operation?

I honestly haven't looked at mine as the diaphram is bad and it is the only thing that doesn't work on mine but i used to work on similar ones quite a few years back. Can it be as simple as the lines reversed on the neutral switch itself? They do need to vent as you described and I believe that...

    1957 thunderbird cooling thermostat

car is old enough there isn't a real special procedure to bleed but when I have one that gives me trouble bleeding I pull a high heater hose and fill it till it runs out. We also use a large funnel with a radiator cap adapter that makes the fill point very high and run it until the thermostat is...

    1957 thunderbird cooling thermostat

If it didn't overheat before the cooling system service I would suggest that they didn't get the air out of the system. A colder thermostat only slows down the heating process. It does not cure it. Make sure all of the air is bled out of the system before you condemn the thermostat. Also make...

    Aftermarket radio sound

installed those retro 4 x 10 speakers from crutchfield. They are pretty awesome compared to what I had. What I didn't realilize was that they don't fit the rear cavity but for now I stuffed it in there. If you have any mounting advise I'm game. I wished I had started with these instead of trying...

    Aftermarket radio sound

I often wonder why I ask for advice and then don't follow it. Continuing saga of this project is that ai added a small Alpine amp which didn't do much to clean up the sound and added 2 4" speakers (Pioneer) in the door which fit with mild modification. I cut the plastic behind the door but not...
